Melbourne Chamber Orchestra's Concert Series

MCO's concert series and programming reflect the principles that were established in the great flourish of creativity that occurred in the 18th century.

Simple, elegant, deeply personal music that touches the soul and uplifts the spirit.

Take a moment to wander through our programs of recent years:

Under Glass

- in 2004 we commemorated our new performance venue, BMW Edge, with a series that drew inspiration from its jewel-like glass shell.

Sensations of Time and Place

- in 2005, our vision embraced the surrounds and context of the performance venue, drawing in key landmarks (all seated at the doorstep of BMW Edge) including the Potter Gallery, the Yarra River and Birrarung Marr - the ancient public meeting place - in concerts which included River of Mists and Full Moon, Flood Tide.

Genius Interrupted

- in 2006, the world focused on the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart. APA took the broad view and featured a number of works from composers who similarly met an early death and left a legacy of genius for us to appreciate.

Prima Era

- in 2007, the appointment of new Artistic Director, William Hennessy, and the establishment of our group of Core Players heralded a new era for Pro Arte as it was, now MCO. The predominantly baroque program - including the full suite of Brandenburg concerti - was a primary force and acknowledged the artistic roots of the genre. All of this was presented under the evocatively titled program of Prima Era, a new dawn.
